Letter from the President
Welcome to the website of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA). The FSA is committed to assisting and supporting accounting programs and emphasizing the importance of graduate education in accounting. The FSA is an advocate of accreditation for accounting programs and the 150 hour educational requirement for CPA licensure.
The membership gathers twice annually. In February, the FSA jointly sponsors an educational leadership seminar with the Accounting Programs Leadership Group (APLG). The APLG/FSA Annual Seminar engages participants in thought leadership on pedagogy, educational issues, fund raising, and management of academic departments, among others. The Seminar is usually preceded by an accounting accreditation update from AACSB International. In May of each year, the Deloitte Foundation sponsors the Deloitte/FSA Faculty Consortium. This meeting keeps the membership apprised of cutting-edge issues related to the accounting profession and provides take-aways for classroom use.
The FSA provides input, when public comment is solicited or allowed, on proposed changes to CPA licensing requirements and AACSB Standards.
Several awards are presented annually by the FSA. These awards recognize student and faculty achievements and practitioner contributions to accounting education. Each FSA member school receives an annual award to present to one outstanding master’s level student on behalf of the FSA. Faculty awards include the Mark Chain Award for innovation in graduate teaching and the Joseph A. Silvoso Faculty Merit Award for outstanding faculty contributions. The FSA Practitioner Service Award is given to a member of the practicing profession for contributions to accounting education and relations with educators.
If you are a member school, we welcome your input on how the FSA might better support its membership. If you are not a member school, I hope you will consider joining the FSA.
